Barry Anderson, the Chicago Bulls’ manager of entertainment is officially stepping down from his role, which marks an end of an era. While you may not know who Barry is, you certainly know his alter ego, Benny.

Barry is Benny the Bull, the most beloved team mascot this side of Phillie the Phanatic.

Whether teasing NBA refs or opposing players, instigating hilarious tiffs with fans, or performing incredible high-flying acrobatic dunks during half-time, Benny will surely be missed.

Barry announced that he is stepping down in a Facebook post on Friday,  April 15th, and noted that June 30th will be his last in a Bulls uniform.

“After 12 incredible years, it’s come time for me to explore this world, this life, without my fuzzy red friend. In what’s been an impossibly difficult choice to make, I’ve decided that June 30th will be my final day at the Chicago Bulls, where my heart will forever live.”

There isn’t word on if the organization will find someone else to fill his role, or if Benny will eventually replaced by another mascot entirely. One thing is for sure, there will never be another Barry Anderson.

Here are some highlights of Benny’s career.

And now he can return home for good.
