As a life long Chicago Cubs fan, this is admittedly an odd situation to be in. The Cubs have knocked off the St Louis Cardinals to move onto the NLCS for the first time since 2003, and in doing so they’ve become America’s darlings.

No longer does this team own the “loveable loser” moniker, heck this team of collective youngsters hardly realize the heaviness the Cubs history is suppose to weigh on them. No, guys like Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and even the longest tenured Cub, Starlin Castro haven’t seemed to feel that pressure, or even appear to care.

Through back-to-back-to-back huge offensive efforts against the best pitching staff in baseball, they’ve won over baseball fans from across the country. As surprising as the team’s rise has been, maybe it shouldn’t have caught as many by surprise. This team has been the best team in baseball since June, and came into the postseason as baseball’s hottest –winning their last eight contests of the regular season.

This team is doing incredible things on the field, and perhaps creating miracles off of it. They have found a way to get Chicago White Sox fans to enjoy watching, and in some cases root for this Cubs team.

While for a long time it might have seemed like it would take an executive order for the Cubs to end their championship drought, this team seems prepped to end it by themselves.

Coming from the National League Central — which the top three teams owned a collective 295 wins — the Cubs are the only team left standing. Do not try to make sense of that. Do not try to reason with that. The Cubs have shown the world that they are now the best team in baseball, by virtue of beating the only teams that owned better records, and they proved it in the playoffs on a gigantic stage.

While there is a lot of baseball yet to be played, it should come as no surprise if the Cubs represent the National League in the World Series, and even less of one when they win the whole damn thing.
