Jonathan Toews Rings in the New Year With Record Setting Performance

The Chicago Blackhawks sent the Colorado Avelanche home unhappy as Jonathan Toews Rings in the New Year with his fourth overtime goal of the season.

That goal had a ton of signifigance as “Captain Serious” found his way into the record books.

Toews is very familiar with these clutch moments, not only has he scored four OT goals this season, he has six game winning goals in 2015-16 and 49 over the course of his career. For a little icing on the cake, Toews has netted the GWG in the playoffs on another 10 occasions.

Toews has 13 goals on the season, with four of those coming in OT, meaning 30% of his tallies have been in overtime. Additionally, nearly half of his 2015-16 goals have been game winners, perhaps making him the most clutch player in the NHL at the moment.

Since the NHL moved to a 3-on-3 overtime, the Blackhawks have won seven of their 11 OT games, with only one going to a shootout (which they won). Fans calley that the Blackhawks would be a formidable team under the new OT rules, and they have certainly proved them right.

Toews and crew will look to continue their winning ways as they face-off against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, then a home and home against Pittsburgh on the fifth and sixth of the month.
