Perhaps the Greatest Troll Job on the Cardinals EVER!!!

Twitter is a lot of things. A place for information. A place to be included. Perhaps the greatest Social media platform. And yes, the best place for internet trolling (sorry Reddit and 4CHan). Well, yesterday, perhaps the greatest of troll jobs in the history of troll jobs happened, and it happened at the expense of the St Louis Cardinals.

Jon Heyman, of FanRag Sports and an MLB Network insider, posed the question on Twitter…

The Cardinals have certainly had a disappointing season. After signing Dexter Fowler, having a healthy Yadier Molina, and having a fairly respectable rotation, the Cardinals should be performing much better. Regardless if this was a valid question or not, one fan, Jeff Everson, is responsible for the harshest burn of all-time.

This is of course in reference to the scandal in which the St Louis Cardinals were caught hacking into the Houston Astros database which held scouting information on players. St Louis scouting director, Chris Correa had accessed the Houston database 50 times in a 16-month span, which resulted in a $2 million fine (largest allowed per MLB rules) and losing their top two draft picks in the 2017 draft (the 56th and 75th picks).

Many have argued that the fine was too light, especially since the Cardinals already lost their top pick when they signed Dexter Fowler (any team that signs a player that was offered a Qualifying Offer will lose their top/first round pick).

Regardless of the details, Jeff Everson’s tweet will live on in internet infamy, which is really just several hours.
