VIDEO: Ross and J-Hey, Distance Couldn’t Break this Bromance

It is lost at times that David Ross played for six clubs before solidifying his legend as a Cub. Mostly a journeyman, he’s been a defensive minded backup backstop on six playoff teams, and won two championships. Perhaps having his best offensive season as a Cincinnati Red, he was always able to impact a roster in many other ways. It is those other ways which had caused Ross to be a very popular player throughout his stops.

One of those stops was the Atlanta Braves. That’s where he and current Cubs right fielder – Jason Heyward met. Similar to a young Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, David would serve as a mentor to Jason during his first three seasons. Teaching him how to be a pro, manage with life on the road, and deal with the ups and downs. This is what led Heyward to pay for an upgraded suite for David during his final season.

“That’s one of the first emotional moments I had in the offseason,” Ross said. “[Heyward] texted me this nice long message about supposedly what I’ve done for him. That was cool to start reflecting back and people you’ve played with start saying nice things.”

That bromance was on full display on ESPN’s Sunday Night broadcast of the Cubs – Cardinals game. David filled in for Jessica Mendoza on ESPN’s top broadcast team, and ESPN broadcasted the game from the right field bleachers. This set up the perfect opportunity for the bromance to flourish once again.

Per ESPN’s Twitter account, between innings, Jason and David played catch.

Yes, once a Cubbie, always a Cubbie.
