The Chicago Cubs have been on a run which we haven’t seen since the 1906 -1910 seasons, when the team advanced to three of four World Series. They would win two of them, and were considered baseball’s first dynasty.
During the Cubs Convention, owner Tom Rickett’s joked that when the Cubs win a World Series, they always win two. While I’m not making any World Series promises just yet, the Cubs could become the first team since the 2012 St Louis Cardinals to even make it back to the playoffs. If they make it back to the World Series, they’d be the first since the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies to do so.
If they were to win the series, they’d be the first since the 1999/2000 New York Yankees to repeat.
Just returning to the playoffs is a huge accomplishment as they would be the eighth champion to do so over the past 17 years.
If the Cubs beat the Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon, they will buck the trend and begin to write history.
