So… this could be embarrassing for Joe Girardi.
Yesterday Girardi had an eight-hour interview with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. That interview led many to believe that Girardi was the leader in the clubhouse (ah, literally and figuratively). But today, as the Chicago Tribune’s Paul Sullivan reports, David Ross will he hired. Well, at least if you believe the players anyways.
“If you’re a betting man,” the player told a fellow Cubs employee, “put your money on Rossy.”
Sullivan reported
Now, of course this is hearsay, and Sullivan mentions that Epstein did not comment, this still continues to point all arrows in Ross’s way. We have been swaying the content on this site that way, because he’s been the favorite to get the position.
Patrick Mooney of The Athletic began to dispel the thought that Ross would prefer to keep the plush retirement life over managing. He mentioned that he’s been doing his homework for a couple seasons, and that the Minnesota Twins believed he was gunning towards the Cubs job as long back as last season.
Don’t get that confused with Ross scheming behind Joe Maddon’s back – that’s not the case – this was more him getting his ducks in a row since the writing was on the wall beginning Spring Training of 2018.
Almost everything points to Rossy being named the next Chicago Cubs manager. If it happens, it’ll be well deserved.
