Whether he’s tossing a shutout or getting tagged for a five run inning, no one questions how good of a dude Cubs pitcher, Cole Hamels is. He just seems like a good, standup guy, and this news proves as much.
Hamels and his wife, Heidi, began building their 32,000 square foot home near Branson, Missouri in 2012. After he was traded to the Texas Rangers from the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016, the couple placed the home for sale that offseason. Soon after, the couple had a change of heart and decided to donate the home to charity.
They chose Camp Barnabas, an organization which provides a summer camp to children with disabilities.
“The home started out as our dream, and now we get to share that dream with an incredible organization,” the couple said, as per a press release by The Hamels Foundation.
With the Cubs playing uninspirational baseball over the past two months (or closer to the last 14 months) we might need a story like this. But there’s still a couple weeks left in the 2019 chapter of the Chicago Cubs. There’s still a couple weeks left to write a better ending.
