Why Are People So Upset at David Ross?

David Ross got to live the dream of every little kid that grew up a baseball fan – hitting a home run in Game 7 of the World Series. But that’s not even it, that Game 7 was also the final game of his career.

I remember looming at my brother and saying how much we thought this was a good matchup for Ross, batting against Andrew Miller – Cleveland’s super reliever. We said this as in Game 1, Ross worked the count into his favor, going to 3-1, before Miller came back to strike him out on consecutive sliders.

Fast forward to Game 7, and again Ross worked the count into his favor.

It is what happens next that has made some fans from around the league mad.

Yes… people are actually mad about this. David Ross, as he’s done on occasions before, bumped, ah… we’ll say cups with teammates in celebration of this historic home run. Here’s just a few of the angry social justice warriors speaking out for the, kids…

What this celebration is about is – team. Athletes in pro sports spend a hell of a lot of time together. In the time they think up some really weird stuff, including penis bumping. Back on a team I played on we played in a tournament several hundred miles away. In doing so we all decided to shave our heads showing each other we were in it together. Week that wasn’t all…

On the trip someone got the idea that when we did something big during the tournament, hit a home run, make a great defensive play, or just have a big hit – we would bang a bat on our cups. Imagining an aluminum baseball bat being swung at my groin strikes fear in my mind now, but back then you never thought twice about it – we were a team.

That is all these guys were doing, while Ross might be 39 years old, and paying the last game of his career, he and the Chicago Cubs were acting like the 16 year old kids that fell in love with the game of baseball.
