Bears keep building defense with Freeman

The Bears have been struggling at the linebacker position for the past few seasons, but “NO MORE” says GM Ryan Pace.

After the Danny Trevathan signing on Thursday, Pace brought in former Colts linebacker Jerrell Freeman.

Freeman has struggled mildly with some hamstring issues the past couple seasons, but he has still been able to play in 13 games in 2015. Had he played 16, he could’ve surpassed his tackle total of 145 he recorded in his rookie season.

Freeman will join Trevathan as starters on the inside. With Willie Young, Lamarr Houston, and Pernell McPhee all performing well last season, the Bears have definitely improved (understatement!) their defensive core.

As Da Bears Blog points out, Pace definitely wants to add play makers in order to improve the defense, but is smart in not “overpaying” for someone like Malik Jackson – who signed with Jacksonville for five years and $90 million.

The Bears added Freeman for a small, but reasonable amount of $12 million, $6 million guaranteed. Is Freeman what Jackson is from the inside linebacker position? Not really, but this move improves the team for a good price that the team still has space to go make more moves. It’s awesome to see what Pace is doing with this team.
