BREAKING: THIS IS NOT A TEST, WRIGLEY WILL BE OPEN FOR FANS ON OPENING DAY!

UPDATE: Mayor Lightfoot has made the official announcement, the Cubs and Sox will be allowed 20% capacity on Opening Day.

Per David Kaplan, the City of Chicago and the Chicago Cubs will announce that Wrigley will be open for fans on opening day. No estimate yet on the number of fans. Side note, Guarantee Rate Field will also allow fans per the report.

With the rollout of the vaccine, with this being an outdoor venue, and quite literally every other city approving some amount of fans allowed in, Chicago and the Cubs will follow suit. While I’m certain there was pressure from constituents, fans, and the teams – ultimately it would have been difficult to not allow the ballpark to be open in the shadow of others allowing it.

I have reached out to a source myself, and while they wouldn’t necessarily confirm, they have suggested that there has been a lot of research and it would be strange to but follow through at this point.
