Cardinals OF is Mad at Ben Zobrist
It is rare that Ben Zobrist is being singled out, he’s the goodie-goodie Christian boy that married a Christian singer. But don’t tell that to the St Louis Cardinals Tommy Pham. No, he is rather upset at the Chicago Cubs utility player.
This all stemmed from Zobrist’s comments after the 5-0 shutout of the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon. When being interviewed by ESPN Chicago’s Jesse Rogers, Zobrist went on to say this.
“It would be nice to do it there,” Zobrist said. “I’ll just say that.”
“We intend to clinch there. For a lot of the guys that have been around here for a long time, it’s going to be very satisfying.”
Those remarks didn’t rub Pham very well and decided to respond through the media today, saying.
“Better not ask me how I’m doing on the field,” Pham told reporters on Monday. “I don’t wanna be his friend now. You know you say you’re going to pop bottles… don’t say hi to me on the field then.”
This is yet another example of how much this rivalry has come alive since the 2015 season. With the Cubs beating the Cardinals in their only playoff meeting, to the Cubs signing away Jason Heyward and John Lackey in 2016, and the Cardinals signing away Dexter Fowler in 2017. Then, of course, the close divisional runs of 2015 and this season has brought the rivalry to a whole new level.
The last series of the 2017 season between the Cubs and Cardinals starts at 7:10 PM Central Time on Monday, and the Cubs have the opportunity to clinch their second consecutive NL Central title on Tuesday.
Pham is old enough to not be such a cry baby.
