Chicago Bears Former First Rounder Looks to be Out
NFL life is a rough life. One minute you are a first round pick and being celebrated as the next great player, the next you are on the chopping block and about to be run out of town. That is the current fate of Chicago Bears cornerback, and former 2014 first rounder, Kyle Fuller.
Yes, the Kyle Fuller that was celebrated for his heroic relief performance on Monday Night Football in his rookie season against the San Francisco 49ers. That Kyle Fuller that a lot of Bears fans clung to as their past defensive favorites had been run out of Chicago. Yes, that Kyle Fuller that has performed at a very high level in this league.
It has been very documented that Kyle’s time in Chicago might be over. He wasn’t a John Fox guy, and hasn’t impressed Fox or defensive coordinator Vic Fangio throughout last season or early in training camp. With Deiondre’ Hall, DeVante Bausby and Jacoby Glenn pushing Fuller – and reportedly the coaching staff’s preferred direction – Fuller could lose his starting job if any of the trio has a good showing during this week’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.
There are some within the media that feel the Bears could move forward without Fuller even on the roster. While speculation right now, the thought does gain some weight with Kyle bit making the trip to New England with the team.
The team is crediting a knee injury for Kyle’s absence, and that he’s being left behind for evaluation. Well with the training staff joining the team in New England, it appears they are using the time to “evaluate” Hall, Bausby, and Glenn.
It seems as if the writing is on the wall, which is a shame because personally I like Fuller and the team can always use guys with experience in the league and in the system. This will certainly continue to play out, and we are intrigued to continue watching.
