Williams has had 94-career starts, and a 4.43 ERA.
Williams will help add depth to a Cubs starting rotation that will use creativity over skill. Williams offers a fourseam fastball (92mph) and slider (83mph), also mixing in a change (85mph), sinker (90mph) and curve (78mph). His sinker acts almost like a change x 2. It generates more swings and misses than most sinkers, while his change leads to more ground balls than most others.
Trevor has spent his entire career as a Pirate, and his best season (by far) was his 2018 season where he had a 3.11 ERA, 1.178 WHIP, and a 3.78 FIP. He doesn’t work deep in games, with the most innings he’s pitched in a season being 170.2.
He will join Kyle Hendricks, Alec Mills, Zach Davies, Adbert Alzolay, Shelby Miller, Tyson Miller and a host of others in the Cubs starting rotation.
Early reports are he is signed for one year, $2.5 million.
