Recently released outfielder, Carlos Gonzalez has found a new home in the friendly confines. Well, it is a minor league deal, but nonetheless.

Gonzalez, or CarGo, was recently designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians. After posting a .210/.282/.276 line, he earned it.

For the Cubs, he represents a lefty power bat for a team that hasn’t had much power outside of Anthony Rizzo from the left side as of late. He’s a very low risk/high reward and with a career .412/.474/.618 slash line in the playoffs and has seven seasons of posting 50 or more extra base hits. In 2018 with the Colorado Rockies he posted a .276/.329/.467 line.

The Cubs can also use more lefty balance off the bench as Daniel Descalso, Kyle Schwarber, and Jason Heyward have been riddled in recent slumps, Ben Zobrist is on a leave, and Ian Happ hasn’t made his 2019 debut for the big league team.
