Cubs Lefty Cut Thumb and Had Surgery Thursday Morning
Well, this isn’t ideal news. This past Saturday, while washing dishes, Chicago Cubs lefty, Jose Quintana lacerated his left thumb. On Thursday morning he underwent surgery to repair a digital sensory nerve.

Quintana will be held back for two weeks, and then re-evaluated. So… it looks like there will be an opening in the Cubs rotation, at least to start. The Cubs have added several pitchers to their 6-man roster that could take a step up to the bigs in his place. Perhaps someone like Adbert Alzolay gets an opportunity or Alec Mills. Heck, do the Cubs get crazy and provide a real opportunity for Brailyn Marquez to get a taste early on when pitchers will likely be held to three or four innings?
For the Cubs to compete, in this short season, they will absolutely need a healthy Quintana. But with this injury and him becoming a free agent at the end of the season, this could be a very disappointing campaign for the lefty-hurler. Oh, and can the Cubs spring for a dishwasher for their pitchers!?
