There is some word that the Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers are finally nearing a deal. This deal would help solidify the Cubs bullpen, and give them a power arm for their playoff run.

Yes, the Cubs would be getting a high-leverage pitcher, another reliable arm that gives manager Joe Maddon flexibility. The deal would be Justin Wilson in return for IF Jeirmer Candelario and SS Isaac Paredes.

There is reason to believe there is a hurdle remaining. It could be the Cubs wanting to include Alex Avila, or conversations about other prospects or even pitchers (ahem, Justin Verlander, not kidding).

Wilson is in the middle of his best professional season. Owning a 2.68 ERA with a WHIP south of 1.000 and striking out 12.3 hitters per nine innings. Alex has another year remaining one his deal.

UPDATE: Trade is completed, pending physicals.
