The outfielder the Chicago Cubs got for Andrew Chafin, Greg Deichmann, will realize his dream today. In Greg Deichmann’s Instagram story, he posted the news.

While Deichmann’s power profile hasn’t developed, yet, he has worked hard on making more contact. That has increased his batting average, he has an impressive OBP (.425 in 2021), to add to his .864 OPS. Surprisingly, he has swiped 31 bases in his minor league career, and while I don’t think he will steal a ton of bases in the majors, he’s surprisingly faster than I expected.

The Oakland Athletics were very encouraged by Deichmann’s work at their alternate site in 2020, but I tend to not fully buy into a prospect’s offensive stats while playing in the Triple-A West league, formerly the PCL. Still, his contact rates and being more patient have improved and I believe as he gets more top-level coaching, his power will begin to come back out. He’s no stranger to hitting a ball out of the ballpark, yanking 30 bombs in his final 584 collegiate plate appearances.

So welcome to the bigs kid, hopefully, it’s a long stay.
