Girardi Stepping Down, Signals an Impending Hire?

Former Chicago Cubs catcher, and Peoria native, Joe Girardi has stepped down as head coach for Team USA. Could this mean an impending hire is on the horizon?

Girardi is in line for the Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Mets Manager spot. With him stepping down, could this be a sign that he is ready to sign a contract?

It’s pure speculation, but he cites focusing on his managerial aspirations.

The Cubs can announce a hiring as early as this Monday as that is the next day without a playoff game. Teams can make announcements and hire throughout the playoffs but must do so when there isn’t a game being played. It is frowned upon to make any announcements during the World Series, however, the Cubs did so in 2014 when they fired Ricky Renteria and hired Joe Maddon.

To be clear, I am not suggesting that he has a job, the Cubs or any other team has offered him a job. It is just very curious timing that this comes out as all teams have the opportunity to announce a hiring on Monday.
