Heyman: Cubs and Mets Discussing Bryant and Davies Trade
The New York Mets have been connected to Kris Bryant since the start of the 2021 season. There has been some smoke around the Mets as a potential landing spot, and if I was honest, I think they have put forth the best potential deal for Bryant to date. Yeah, we heard the San Francisco Giants rumors with Joey Bart, but I don’t think he was ever really on the table.
Bart, the former No. 2 overall pick, likely would be available only in a deal that involves players in addition to Bryant, a free agent after this year. Bryant would have great value to the Giants, with whom he could play 1B, 3B, and LF. @MLBNetwork @MLB

It seems much more legitimate that the Cubs were floating this rumor out there themselves, hoping to push the Mets – or even the Los Angeles Dodgers – into better offers for Bryant.
It may have worked, with the Cubs and Mets talks increasing. It also seems like the deal may also include Starting Pitcher, Zach Davies.
Mets and Cubs are talking about deals for Kris Bryant and/or Zach Davies. Could make a nice package and solve Mets’ two main issues. Cubs have a lot going on obvs.

I still believe this is rather far from happening, and I have heard that in addition to the Mets, Giants, and Dodgers, the Tampa Bay Rays likely have an interest as well. I would imagine any trade involving Bryant to Tampa would require the Cubs to pay some – or all – of his remaining salary.
It’s insane, in 2015 people talked about how likely it will be that the Cubs and Mets find a way to connect on a trade. The Cubs had tons of talented young hitters and the Mets had a ton of young and talented pitchers. So much has changed in those short six years…
More on this if it happens.
