Is Manziel on his way to Chicago
The Cleveland Browns announced today that Hue Jackson is their new head coach. That’s not exactly Chicago news, but Jackson reportedly was adamant that the team moves on without troubled quarterback, Johnny Manziel, signaling the end of “Johnny Football” in Cleveland.
So is Johnny Manziel on his way to Chicago?
Well new Chicago Bears offensive coordinator is a huge proponent of Manziel, was the QB coach for the Browns when they drafted him, and reportedly was the loudest voice in favor of Johnny. Here’s the story on how Johnny won him over.
“We’re sitting there and they keep showing Johnny on T.V. and Johnny and I are texting and he shoots me a text and he says, ‘I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.’
“When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach (Mike Pettine),” Loggains said via Cleveland.com. “I’m like ‘this guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.’ As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ‘pull the trigger. We’re trading up to go get this guy.”’
With Manziel available, the Bears in need of a backup, and their system apparently suitable for saving careers (see Jay Cutler).
Or… John Fox and Ryan Pace will tell Dowell to get the f&@% out of their office if he suggests it.
Either way, the Bears are in need of a backup quarterback, and with the Loggains connection could Pace be tempted to offer Manziel a one-year deal?
You have to figure Johnny is considered a cancer, and NFL teams tend to stay away from any player that could be a distraction. But if he expresses remorse for blowing his opportunity in Cleveland, and it’s a low cost high reward type of deal, why not take a flyer on a former first round pick.
One thing is for sure, the Johnny Manziel story continues to entertain, and NFL fans are watching his every move.
