Heyward

It’s funny, at the beginning of the year you wouldn’t think Chicago Cubs fans would be worried about right fielder, Jason Heyward. But with a hot start of the season, Jason has proved his worth to those fans who weren’t sold on him after a lackluster 2016.

After an injury has kept Jason out of the lineup since May 6th, he was placed on baseball’s new 10-day DL. With Jason able to return on Tuesday, the Cubs elected to hold him out on both Tuesday and Wednesday. With some questions on when he would return, we saw this note come across Carrie Muskat’s Twitter timeline.

We now know Jason will rehab in South Bend, Indiana. This gives Jason a chance to get sharp, but also give Ian Happ more big league looks. I still think Happ will be sent down when Jason is activated, but if he maximizes his opportunity… who knows.

The Cubs usually send their rehabbing players to a team which the schedule lines up for quick travel back to the Cubs. Looking at South Bend’s schedule, they are relatively local, playing in Indiana and Kentucky the next 8-days. I would imagine the Cubs will activate Jason on Monday, and then they could easily send Ian back to Iowa where they will be at home playing Tacoma.
