Jay Cutler, Greatest Bears Quarterback of All-Time

It is no longer deniable. You can’t point to the contract, the ill-advised interceptions, the poor demeanor, or whatever other excuse some Chicago Bears fans have made in the past. Jay Cutler is the greatest Bears quarterback of all-time.

Not Sid Luckman, nor Jim Harbaugh, or even fan favorie Jim Miller or Kyle Orton. No, Cutler has surpassed all of them in every passing category there is, and in less games. He owns 750 more completions than the closest (Harbaugh), he has 5,000 more yards than the next guy (Luckman), and now more touchdowns than any other quarterback in Bears history (139).

In fact, the only Chicago passing record Jay doesnt own is interceptions, where Sid has a hefty 34 pick lead on Cutler (132 to Jay’s 98).

But wins! Wins are what matters! Yes, and Jay is now the winningest QB in Bears history as well.

Now Jay isn’t perfect, but to crucify him for what he isn’t is taking a misguided stance on Cutler. Jay should not be compared to the Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, or Tom Brady’s of the world. There are only a handful of of those purely great quarterbacks in the league,  and there are 25 teams that don’t have that guy. Cutler is in that next group of guys, and he’s in the top half of those next guys.

If you don’t believe in Jay Cutler, the entire picture Jay Cutler. OK. But believe in what he’s doing this season. After a performance where he passed for 345 yards and two touchdowns, Jay improved his season numbers to 1,787 yards, 10 TDs, and 5 INTs and a 89.6 QB rating. He has a better rating than Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, more TDs than Peyton and Russell Wilson, and less interceptions than Peyton and Eli Manning, Luck, Joe Flacco, Brees, Russell, and Phillip Rivers.

Aside from the stats, Jay has put the Bears in a position to win every game besides the opener against Green Bay. He has orchestrated three fourth quarter comeback wins this season, has performed 20 fourth quarter comebacks and 24 fourth quarter game winning drives throughout his career. Heck, Joe Montana had 31 comebacks and 34 game winning drives in his career, and he was known for his fourth quarter heroics.

Jay certainly isn’t one of those big names, and maybe he makes it hard for a fan to like him. But he has done his job in 2015, he is showing that with proper coaching he is a legit starter in the NFL. While he will always have critics, they are certainly quieter lately, right Brian Urlacher?
