Jonathan Toews to be Lone NHL 16 Cover Athelete Following Patrick Kane’s Removal
News of Patrick Kane being removed as one of the two EA Sports NHL 16 Cover athletes circulated the Internet earlier today. In a press release from Electronic Arts they stated.
Following this news we are now learning that Chicago Blackhawks captain, Jonathan Toews will now be the sole cover boy of hockey’s most awaited video game.
Originally marketed with the tag line of, “Play together, win together,” This marks the second time (or third) EA has removed an athlete from the cover. In 2004, Joe Thornton was lined up for the cover, but after an incident in which he was charged (and those charges were eventually dropped) EA chose up and coming Atlanta Thrasher, Dany Heatley. His selection lasted just 4-days as he was removed after being involved in a car accident which resulted in the death of teammate Dan Snyder, in which EA selected Colorado Avalanche great, Joe Sakic.
Toews has now become the first player to be featured twice on the cover worldwide, as Russia has featured Alex Ovechkin twice and Teemu Selanne has graced the Finnish cover twice as well.
What are your thoughts on today’s decisions from EA? Let me know and you could be featured in our next entry!
Great read and insight into other incidents that have occurred taking people off the cover. One thing, not sure if this was meant to be this way, but Ave Lance Joe Sakic? I’m sure you meant Avalanche, but outside of that, everything was great. Can’t wait to see more soon.
