This is breaking now, former Chicago Cubs left fielder, and all around good dude, Kyle Schwarber has signed a one-year agreement with the Washington Nationals. The contract, per sources, is a one-year $10 million deal, pending physical. (Bob Nightengale has since reported a $7 million deal, with an $11 million mutual option for 2022, or a $3m buyout).

Jesse Dougherty, of the Washington Post was first to report.

The Nationals have a pretty damn good left fielder in Juan Soto. Someone who many around the league will firmly grab the second-best player in baseball title away from Mookie Betts this season. So, if there is no DH in the NL, this will likely cause Soto to move to RF to give Schwarber Washington’s LF spot.

Now, I have been vocal about Schwarber’s mass improvement in left over the past several years. While he isn’t the greatest defender, he isn’t the embarrassment that he once was considered out there. Playing in National’s Park, that LF plays larger than Wrigley’s does. So things might get interesting.

Either way, I wish Schwarber all the best. He was a great dude here and was wrongfully billed from the jump. Hopefully this year in Washington reboots his career and that professional hitter we saw in 2015 and in the2016 World Series finds his way back.
