Since the Chicago Cubs were eliminated fans have questioned what Marquee Network will broadcast. Many thought there would be rebroadcasting of old Cubs games or content, but it seems all we were getting was betting shows and nothing to draw viewers in.

Today, the Chicago Bears and Marquee Sports Network announced a partnership where Marquee will broadcast a weekly Bears show. The name, “Bear Essentials” will be hosted by Cole Wright and broadcasted (usually) on Tuesdays. Wright, formally from NFL Network, will also have Bears personnel and analysts breaking down Bears games and preview the upcoming opponent.

In addition to the show, Marquee will air a two-hour director’s cut (maybe the All-22 footage?) of the most recent Bears game.

“We’re excited to bring Bears fans more access to the news and information they crave with additional Bears coverage and analysis on Marquee Sports Network,” said Scott Hagel, Bears VP of Marketing and Communications.

I do think it is a little ironic that the new Bears content might bring fans of say… the White Sox to Marquee Sports, especially after seeing them raise an eyebrow on potential rate increases for a channel they’d never support. That’s some marketing genius right there.

“The opportunity to build on our Chicago Cubs foundation with the addition of unique Bears content and weekly game carriage is tremendous,” said Mike McCarthy (no, not that Mike McCarthy), GM of Marquee Sports Network. “We’re thrilled to partner with the iconic Chicago Bears organization and serve the Chicago sports fans more original content.”

Beginning Wednesday, October 14th, “Bear Essentials” will air at 7:00 PM and the Bears vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers will air immediately following.

*One important note* Due to NFL programming policies, the shows will only air in the Chicago, Rockford, and South Bend areas.
