MLB Gets Smart, Taps Several Cubs for Commercial
Major League Baseball’s 2017 advertisement campaigns are centered around a TV drama-like theme, “This Season on Baseball.” The multi-platform spots will focus on current drama throughout the baseball season, focusing on the players, teams, and even managers.
This is a bit of a change for MLB as they have been often criticized for not promoting their players. With so many young and electric stars, baseball is wise to promote the game’s youth.
Which leads us to the current ad that has begun showing. The ad features several of the game’s best young players, showing them getting ready for the 2017 season. The spot ends with several Chicago cubs stars, and a shot at the Cleveland Indians.
The Cubs in the shoot are of course Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist, Kyle Schwarber, Addison Russell, and Javier Báez.
As described by BBWAA member, and Forbes Magazine writer, Maury Brown.
“The spot sees Walton Goggins narrate with the track ‘I Had a Woman’ by artist/producer Wax Tailor accompanying. The ads were directed by commercials, music videos and short films maker Jacob Rosenberg with the campaign developed by Anomaly, MLB’s creative agency. The spots from the campaign will be distributed on MLB.com’s digital/social platforms and premiere during national broadcasts on ESPN, MLB Network, TBS, FOX Sports and FS1.”
The ads are expected to run throughout the season, up to and including the World Series. If the Cubs are as good as they are expected to be, expect to see more of them in, “This Season in Baseball.”
