Must Watch: Ross Speaking to What Heyward is Going Through

I personally cannot imagine what Chicago Cubs right fielder, Jason Heyward is going through and neither can Cubs manager, David Ross. Postgame on Wednesday evening, Ross answered questions via Zoom on Heyward’s decision and you can just feel the emotion coming through the video as he fought back tears.

I wrote earlier Thursday that we should start the conversation. We cannot continue to pass talking points on these subjects, we all need to sit across the table and start having the real conversation. It won’t be comfortable, it will challenge both positions, but this is the only way we can peacefully create the change needed in this nation.

I’ve seen Heyward speak about race issues in America. I’ve seen the hurt as he tries to use his voice and his status to improve this world. I’ve seen him do that and seen fans say some of the worst things I’ve read to him as if he’s not even a person. I stand with Ross when he says he can’t imagine how he feels right now.

I hope we can come together and through love of our brothers and sisters, love of our neighbors, love of fellow man, create the change so desperately needed.

Hopefully one day “fans” begin to root for equal rights and opportunities for the athletes they cheer for and not just their onfield accomplishments.
