Nevermind the Last One, Craig Kimbrel to the White Sox (Sources tell ESPN)
So I just wrote a piece about Craig Kimbrel possibly going to the Los Angeles Dodgers. You can tear that up… Jeff Passan is reporting that sources have told ESPN that the Chicago Cubs will trade closer, Craig Kimbrel to the crosstown Chicago White Sox.
The Chicago White Sox are finalizing a deal to acquire closer Craig Kimbrel from the Chicago Cubs, sources tell ESPN.

Kimbrel has been the best closer in baseball in 2021, and that stretch really goes back to mid-August 2020. I would expect a strong prospect haul coming back from the White Sox, who have some quality guys left to deal. This shouldn’t impact the Sox MLB roster at all (but, I’m sure I’m wrong).
This article will be updated as more info comes available.

The Cubs get Nick Madrigal and Codi Heuer from the White Sox per Bob Nightengale.
The #Cubs will receive second baseman Nick Madrigal and pitcher Codi Heuer from the #WhiteSox for Craig Kimbrel.

Nick is a top of the lineup type, speedy and has all the tools. He is baseball smart and reminds me a bit of Nico Hoerner. While Madrigal is out for the season with a torn hamstring, I would expect him to be the second baseman to Hoerner as he slides to SS in 2022.
