OH Boy! Willson Contreras is Coming!
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is reporting that the Chicago Cubs will promote Willson Contreras before tomorrow’s game!
While Contreras has been labeled a two-way threat, both behind the plate and at the dish, there were some concerns on his ability to command a pitching staff, especially one with as much experience as the Cubs. Additionally there has not been a decision on any corresponding roster moves, and it appears that the Cubs plan on carrying three catchers – Miguel Montero, David Ross and Contreras.
Willson came into the 2016 season as the top rated catching prospect in baseball. Keith Law praises his 70-grade arm (top grade of 80) and his .350/.439/.591 slash line isn’t too shabby either.
This comes at a perfect time as fans are growing tiresome of Miguel Montero’s declining ability behind the plate and his pedestrian .210/.333/.343 slash. While a team and fan favorite for his attitude and team first mentality, Montero has been a struggle when in the lineup this season.
