Quintana Made it Official

If there was a question on whether Jose Quintana was going to be on the Chicago Cubs playoff rotation – his performance Sunday answered it. In his best outing since his first with the northsiders, Quintana pitched a three-hit shutout against the Milwaukee Brewers, a team fighting to stay alive.

You could tell early that Quintana was on. He fastball was spotted perfectly all afternoon, and the curve was devastating. This resulted in a 10 strikeout, three-hit day for Quintana.

What’s more important, Q’s performance should have solidified himself as a postseason starter. With the Brewers needing to win the game, Quintana manhandled them for three hours in the complete game shutout. This was a playoff-like game, and Q was the biggest player on the field.

Even if you removed today’s performance, Quintana has earned a playoff rotation spot. He has given up more than 3 runs just once in his last nine starts, and has given up an average of 4 hits per game over that span.

Outside of Kyle Hendricks (and maybe Jake Arrieta, depending if he remains strong after his injury) is there another pitcher on the team you feel more confident in?

How about this rotation?

1. Jake Arrieta
2. Jon Lester
3. Kyle Hendricks
4. Jose Quintana
