Rosenthal: Stanton Will Accept a Trade to the Cubs
This has been a wild ride of an offseason. Ok, well that’s not entirely true. Well unless you’re Giancarlo Stanton or Shohei Ohtani.
These two have hijacked the hot stove league. It’s within reason though. Ohtani has the ability to be a once in a generation type of player, while Stanton immediately becomes the biggest power threat on any team.
The Chicago Cubs have had all of their chips in the Ohtani bucket, and they are a finalist for his services. On the Stanton front, there hadn’t been much noise since very early on. Well the Cubs have been inadvertently added to the Stanton mess.
In a report from Ken Rosenthal, Stanton is pushing to be traded to the Yankees or the Dodgers. But according to Craig Mish of SiriusXM, the Astros and Cubs are on his list as well.
Rosenthal admits, if the Cardinals were to acquire more talent, like Alex Colome and Evan Longoria, he could warm up to St Louis. Likewise, if the Giants were to acquire Shohei Ohtani, he could change his tune on San Francisco.
Personally, Stanton is angling for more power. The new ownership group in Miami, which includes Derek Jeter, has ruled with an iron fist. While both sides are to blame in how things are going, the ultimatum they gave to Stanton couldn’t have sat well with him. Throwing the Cubs in the mix is really just a leverage grab.
I don’t think it is a possibility, but a lineup that looks like this is insane!
- Albert Almora/Jason Heyward (maybe)
- Kris Bryant
- Anthony Rizzo
- Giancarlo Stanton
- Kyle Schwarber
- Willson Contreras
- Addison Russell
- Javier Baez
So many homers…
