Site Suggests – Cubs are the Team to Bet on in the NL Central

The Chicago Cubs have played some, well… interesting ball throughout the first three and a half months of the baseball season. Whether they can compete for championships has yet to be seen, but they are currently in second (by a half-game) and have the chance to separate themselves a bit from the Central with their next eight games against the Milwaukee Brewers and St Louis Cardinals.

The problem right now is the Cubs play on the road. Dropping two of three against the San Francisco Giants, the Cubs currently sport a pathetic 19-30 mark on the road. With their next six games on the road against the Brewers and Cardinals – next week can make or break this club’s chances.

Regardless of the standings, now, there are several places suggesting the Cubs are the favorites in the Central. Right now, Fangraphs suggests the Cubs have a 64.6% chance to win the NL Central and an 80% chance to make the playoffs.

If you’re the betting sort, trends have been very interesting with this club.

On opening day, the Cubs were +225 to win the hyper-competitive NL Central. Now they’re roughly even-money thanks to being a .5-game out but sporting by far the best-run differential in the division. FanGraphs gives Chicago a 67% chance to win the division, but Baseball Prospectus gives them only a 46% shot. Assuming the truth is about in the middle (56.5%), there’s value betting the Cubs to win the Central at +100, but here you can probably find a sportsbook for baseball season offering better prices and payouts that might worth looking at before taken the very first option.

If you’re a betting man (or woman) there are good odds out there for you. But looking at the way this team has played on the road, without a major shake-up, this season could have a disappointing end.
