The Inside Edge on the Cubs Fifth Starter
The biggest questions going into Chicago Cubs Spring Training is what cable providers will Marquee be on, the next… who will be the team’s fifth starter? If you have a service that will carry Marquee Sports Network, or if you’re in Arizona this weekend, then the Saturday, Sunday, and Monday games will give you an inside track on that last spot.
https://twitter.com/MLBastian/status/1230573371353550850?s=19It is believed that Alec Mills, Tyler Chatwood, and Adbert Alzolay are the three competing for that job. They will also be the first three starters of the Cubs spring.
Personally, I think Chatwood will come.out with the job, but I’d like to see Mills grab it with Chatty getting that stretch pitching assignment. Chatwood also looks good late in games as he has high-velo and really devastating stuff, plus the ability to face multiple hitters or go multiple innings. While both Alzolay and Mills have that same ability, it is that high, 97 MPH heater that I like out of the pen. A Mills start, handing off to Chatwood after two times through seems appealing.
Plus, I wrote a piece way back in September of 2018 about how I felt Mills would pitch some big games for the Cubs.
