Trubisky: Future Still Up in the Air
This may or may not be news to any Chicago Bears fan. An organization that doesn’t pick up a fifth-year option on a quarterback drafted with #2 overall pick, then trades for another QB making starter money, isn’t looking to their incumbent for the future. But, after winning his job back in week 12, playing much better in the final seven weeks, and pushing the Bears to the playoffs – some thought a long run could solidify his stay in Chicago.
But, according to Ian Rapoport, the Bears are as confused about Mitch Trubisky’s future as ever.

There is a thought that the Bears would provide Mitch a contract for four years, which would essentially act like four separate one-year deals. This would give the Bears an extended look at Mitch and allow them easy outs if they decided he wasn’t the future or if another option presented itself.
Will that be something Trubisky would consider? Would he prefer to look to free agency and see what it out there after the Bears declined the fifth-year option and traded for Nick Foles? Foles, afterall, is the only Bears QB under contract for the 2021 season.
There is an equal thought around Halas Hall, that the Bears are curious to see how Foles would play under the re-shuffled offensive line. Since their bye week, the Bears O-Line has performed much better. They were allowing 2.5 sacks per game and after the change, they had only allowed 11 sacks. Foles isn’t exactly fleet of foot and no one has described him as elusive, so if the line is performing better there is a chance that the car moves better with Nick behind the wheel.
However, if Trubisky plays well during the playoffs – even if they are one-and-done – the team would be forced to make a very hard decision and it will likely end up in some sort of offer for #10.
