After 3% of the Baseball Season in the Books, Cubs Fans Jump Off the Wagon

Yeah, I’m about to make fun of you. Don’t take this personal, take this as you are in complete shock and I’m the other guy in the movie that notices and gives you a quick slap waking you up so you can go back to cheering on the team. Afterall, we can’t be the best fans in baseball if we are trying to bail water after early season losses.

The Cubs do need to figure this out, otherwise, there’s no way they can catch the white-hot Milwaukee Brewers! I mean, Chicago could find themselves in fourth place after five games!

Hold off on that panic button Xav, this isn’t football, luckily there are more than 16 games in a baseball season.

On June 1st, 2017, the Cubs were in third place, two games under .500, and three games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. While it is nice to get off to a great start, the most important thing early in the season is ensuring the pitching staff gets strong, and they make it out of the colder months healthy. Outside of that, especially with a solid ballclub (on paper), the standings in April don’t mean much at all.

I’m not sure if Jon is asking for personal knowledge, or if he wants the Cubs to trade some of the coaching staff? If it is personal knowledge, yes, yes you can trade coaches.

But why would you want to? Chili Davis is a very respected hitting coach, Jim Hickey is considered a top three pitching coach, Brandon Hyde has been a constant voice in the Cubs clubhouse for a while now. Do you want to trade one of the base coaches? I mean, the 2-3 start isn’t because of them, the team needs guys on base for them to screw up.

I wonder what kind of camera they used though? A Kodak? Maybe Nikon? I know, a Canon.

I’m sure it was “autocorrect” and Joey’s been a fan longer than I’ve been alive…

Well geez, I don’t recall a Hunter Hall on the Cubs roster? But he must be since “We ain’t playing like we should” and the not knowing “What’s wrong with us” and all…

I do think it’s scary that someone that must be on the team doesn’t even know what’s wrong with them!

Whew, the Cubs have been waiting for Josh’s permission, I can’t believe he’s waited for a whole five games before he finally gave it.

Coincidently, Josh is also in charge of personnel for the current White House administration.

I had to look this up, just to make sure his stats were accurate. According to Elias, they check out. If the Cubs keep playing under .500 baseball they will never win the World Series.

Finally some perspective.

Wait, what’s that? Kansas City won the World Series in 2015?

Sorry, autocorrect! I typed Royals. Stupid fone.

Yeah, this team looks just like the pre-Joe Maddon era.

Ah… was that just last season? Dang nabbit…

Ha, I see what you did there. Bwahahaha, it’s a play on the Cubs #EverybodyIn campaign. The one where fans that understand the ebbs and flows of a baseball season, knows there’s good runs and bad runs, but regardless of what is happening asks the fans that bleed Cubbie blue to be “in” through the thick and thin.

It has been getting pretty claustrophobic since the team won in 2016, it wouldn’t be half bad if some jumped off the wagon.

Since you mention it… I bet Joe is a freaking zombie, a no-brained zombie. I mean if he is a zombie, we should Rick Grimes his ass.

I mean, he has a huge point. When the Cubs were eliminated in the NLCS (which they played in three consecutive years in a row for the first time in their existence) they blew their chance to repeat. Also, it’s true, the Chicago Blackhawks (who won in 2010, 2013, and 2015) didn’t waste any chances. I mean, in hockey they apparently didn’t play in 2011 or 2012 or 2014, so that was a threepeat.

Come on fans. You have got to be better than this. Baseball is a long drawn out season. Every team in the league will have a 10-15 game stretch where they play awful baseball and a 10-15 game stretch where they phenomenal baseball. Remember back to the 2016 season, they had a stretch where they lost eight games in a 12 game stretch in May (May 11-23). They also had six losses in a seven-game stretch from June 20th till the 26th. Even more horrendous was in the 20-game stretch (June 20th until July 9th) the team went 5-15.

I know that there are a lot of fans that aren’t used to a baseball schedule yet. That isn’t a bandwagon joke, and I’m not making fun of you, it is a simple fact. Chicago has been notoriously a football town, and we have seen a lot of success out of shorter NBA (Chicago Bulls) and NHL (Blackhawks) seasons. But seriously, social media is becoming a cesspool of horrible whenever the Cubs lose dating back to last season.

I’m not saying you can’t criticize the team for bad play. I’m not saying you can’t call out Joe Maddon for bad pitcher management. You can even criticize Theo Epstein for not making enough moves in the offseason. Do it, but let’s not be baseball-dumb when we do. All I am saying is, let’s just be better.

  1. Having been a fan since the 60s, I have seen some seriously bad seasons. If you’ve jump off the bandwagon, please stay off. I love and believe in my cubs!

  2. Love it! Gave me a good laugh to help deal with the Cubs’ frustrating start. Fans are just passionate and expressing their emotion. So many knee-jerk reactions on social media. This article helps fans take a step back and realize it’s a looooong season. Sure, I thought the Cubs would be at least 3-2 right now. Then again 2-3 is only 1 game different from that and two of their losses were only by 1 run. I fully expect the Cubs to run away with the division.
