This is a developing story, but as NBC Chicago is reporting, ex-Chicago Beat quarterback Erik Kramer shot himself in an apparent suicide attempt in an Los Angeles area motel on Tuesday.

Los Angeles area law enforcement were called out to the motel for a wellness check when they found Kramer who had suffered a non-life-threatening gun shot wound.

Kramer, now 50, helped the Chicago Bears to a 9-7 season in 1995 by throwing 29 touchdowns. He led the Detroit Lions to the NFC Championship Game in 1991.
