Losing Len Kasper was a huge blow to the team. There are some in the fanbase that didn’t like Kasper, but he was one of the best in the business and is respected across baseball. Moving ahead, the Cubs may have actually upgraded in the booth with Jon “Boog” Sciambi.

As soon as the hiring became official, the accolades began to come out. Jeff Passan (the coarse, evil tongued Twitter troll that he is) suggested that after losing Yu Darvish, adding Boog just might make it a wash.

Sciambi is the radio voice of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. He is also the PxP voice of ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball team. He has a very smooth delivery, is quick-witted, and incredibly professional. This is a good hire by the Chicago Cubs and Marquee Sports Network.

He was given the nickname “Boog” for his resemblance to former MLB slugger, Boog Powell. He worked as a PxP man for the Atlanta Braves on FSN South before moving to ESPN’s baseball and college basketball telecasts.

He’s been well-trained in broadcast, working for 780-AM in Florida as well as a host on WQAM (an ESPN property in Miami). He’s climbed the broadcast ladder and has landed one of the best baseball television jobs there is. He will be a very welcomed addition to the Cubs broadcast team. We, as Cubs fans, should be very happy with this hire.
