The Cubs Need to DFA Russell, Today

It seems too many times of late, the Chicago Cubs are on the wrong side of social, domestic, human issues. Aroldis Chapman comes to mind, Daniel Murphy, and this morning many of us woke up to learn about what was really happening within Addison Russell and then wife Melisa Reidy. Melisa wrote a blog post, detailing what she went through. She detailed her thoughts, her emotions, and how a monster put her through horrific and terrifying years of abuse.
Because this story isn’t about him, in the least, the paragraph above is the last time I will use his name. Dirtbag pieces of garbage do not deserve enough respect to be called by their name.

This is about Melisa, and every girl, every mother, aunt, niece, and every daughter that has chosen to root for the Chicago Cubs. This is about the Cubs, Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer, and the Ricketts taking a stance to stand with these woman and telling the organization and their entire fan base that this is not acceptable.

What about due process!?

What about the team’s championship run!?

The Cubs cannot worry about those right now. They can suspend the player allowing time to investigate. This would effectively remove that player from the clubhouse. There’s your due process.

The club’s championship chances? This team is likely better with Javier Baez at short and any of the five others that can play second. Plus, there’s something to be said about winning with the right guys.

Since Melisa wrote the article I have seen so many woman tell stories of cases of DV from their past. It is absolutely heart breaking that someone would do this to another person, but even more so, I am overwhelmed by the amount of people that get treated like this. Then to try and wrap your head around, this is just the few that are ok telling their story or unveiling that this had happened in their past.

It is because I see these woman stepping up and talking, I think of Melisa and all of these woman as the brave and strong ones. All while the piece of chicken shits that do this are the weak and disturbing, and can only be classified as something less than a man.

This is no longer a baseball thing, this is a human thing. The Cubs need to do the human thing and remove the player from the team. Do what’s right for the thousands of domestic violence victims in your own fan base.
