When the LA Times Hits, Cubs Fan Hit Back Harder

If you have missed it, Bill Plaschke of the LA Times is sick of the Chicago Cubs and their story. He is sick of the 108 year draught, he is sick of baseball “forcing” the Cubs down everyone’s throat, and he is sick of how the Cubs effect all other teams in the playoffs.

Wanna know what I’m sick of? Baseball’s inability to accept winning from the team that’s cloaked as losers.

All season long Cubs fans were lectured by the rest of baseball to be careful in our excitement of the team. We were chastised from “better baseball fans” that “all it takes is one injury” or “you never know what can happen in the playoffs.”

Mother F%^&er’s, don’t you F%^%ing realize, us, of ALL baseball fans realize this!?

We of the Bartman’s, the black cats, and the billy goats. We the fans that watched perhaps the best pitcher in baseball give up a three run lead in the 8th inning of a game that would send the team to the World Series. We of the team that had the best record in 2008, was heavily favored, and were swept out of the playoffs by your Dodgers Bill.

Yeah, we are sick of the story also. We hate being reminded for the last 108 seasons we haven’t had a parade, we haven’t had a chance to chase players around drinking holes hoping to spend a moment with champions, we haven’t flooded the streets in the hundreds of thousands to sing the ridiculous song “Go Cubs Go” while crying on a stranger’s shoulder. We are sick of national guys talking about Steve every God Damned time a foul ball is hit down the left field line. We are sick of the nonsense narrative of the Tribune company just filling the seats and not focusing on winning.

But most of all we are sick of people that don’t have a f%^&ing clue on what it means to be a Cubs fan to tell us how to fan. And if you are sick of us, then beat us.

Yes, you in your “win-or-else” town of championship rings. Beat us.

Let’s discuss those championships shall we…

Los Angeles Dodgers – 28 years ago in 1988
Los Angeles Clippers – 0… ever…
Los Angeles Lakers – 6 years ago in 2010
Los Angeles Rams – 0
Los Angeles Kings – 2 years ago in 2014

Those two titles in the last six years screams a city that is “win-or-else.” The Lakers are in the midst of a horrible situation, which maybe with Kobe Bryant retiring they can rebuild – but they will not contend for several years. Then we have the Kings… cause LA cares about hockey.

Bill rips on our cathedral, Wrigley Field. Saying he is sick of it being this “quaint ballyard” with guys like Bill Murray in our stands. You dense moron. Half of LA’s fans in attendance of any game are either movie stars or those that want to be. While we may usher celebrities into the TV booth to sing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” they are often long time fans of the team and gladly clear space in their busy schedule to come, regardless if it gets them press or to have a chance of a camera finding them in the stands.

But mostly our crowds are made up of Chicago’s working class heroes, or executives from the North Shore, or carpenters from Lake County, and retail clerks from Algonquin. Regular joe’s just trying to escape from the daily grind to enjoy a ballgame.

You say you can’t stand the Cubs story, well sir, we can’t stand the rest of baseball coming into our house and telling us how to run it. If you don’t want to hear any longer – beat us.

  1. Abso-effin-lutely agree with every word of this. When we win this year, the narrative will change forever and you will no longer hear about our 108 year drought. Media tools…

  2. The last thing Plaschke won was an argument with his wife because she let him win…
