Oh Wow, the Cubs Twitter is Getting Blasted

Many of you have woken up to this tweet this morning.

Well, it is sitting well with some fans, especially veterans or loved ones of vets that have passed.

Personally I agree with the upset fans on this one. This should day is not about profits or advertisements, and there should not be a money grab. It is about remembering those who lost their lives so we can watch day baseball on a sunny afternoon.

Now don’t point a finger at the Cubs on this one, it is New Era and most likely a contracted advertisement with Major League Baseball. If you look across all baseball team’s timelines they all have this same ad with their hat in the picture. And if you look at the comments on all of those ads you see a similar tone (except Phillies fans for some reason).

Now MLB and New Era do donate a portion of the proceeds to several different charities.

MLB will again donate its licensed uniform royalties that are connected to charitable initiatives. Proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen (Mother’s Day), Prostate Cancer Foundation (Father’s Day), Stand Up to Cancer (Mother’s Day and Father’s Day) and MLB Charities (Memorial Day and Independence Day).

If you’re angry over this ad, I understand, but direct your comments to the MLB. They should know that you think it is distasteful. I personally would be ok with something like this at the beginning of the weekend, but this was a bit suspicious.

I am glad the Cubs followed up that tweet with this wonderful tribute.

A much better use of 140 characters. As a whole, give the benefit if the doubt to AtCubs, they’ve done more good than sketchy and deserve understanding in this one.
