Pernell McPhee Still Pissed at Aaron Rodgers
The Chicago Bears had some extra motivation in beating the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving night, and it centered around comments from the Packers golden boy, Aaron Rodgers. His comments have many Chicago Bears, especially Pernell McPhee still pissed at the Packers quarterback.
“It’s always fun to beat the Bears.” Aaron Rodgers told reporters last week.
Players in all sports are told to not give the other team bulletin board material, especially in football. That bulletin board comment didn’t sit well with many Bears, especially those on the defensive side of the ball. While Lamarr Houston went off on his dislike of Aaron after the game, McPhee had a special kind of rant on AM-1000 with ESPN Chicago’s Jeff Dickerson.
“C’mon, the quarterback said he loved beating up on us. Who he think we are?” McPhee told Dickerson. “We ain’t the team from last year, or two years ago, or three years ago. You know what I’m saying? This is the 2015 Chicago Bears. A lot of guys took it personal, especially when some guy says he love beating up on your brother. I ain’t going to let nobody come and beat my little brother up.”
NFL players have an unwritten code in which you never rip another player or team because every one of them know just how hard it is to suit up and play every Sunday. When someone does speak out, making a player or team seem inferior, those players typically react.
“You know, we went in there and slapped him on his ass,” McPhee added. “They need to go ask him how that feels.”
That’s right, go ask Aaron how he feels about beating the Bears now. While I’m sure Rodgers’ comments weren’t made to specifically cut down the talent of the Chicago Bears, players of his caliber need to be mindful of what they say, as anything can, and often will, be taken personal.
“This game, it can get real personal.”When you are winning, it is all fun. When you are losing, it is very personal. I think the last two games we lost, Denver and Minnesota, a lot of guys took it upon themselves that this, going in, that this Green Bay game was going to be personal.”
While the Bears defense might not have those high end talented guys, you certainly like the attitude of McPhee or Houston. Hopefully they continue to motivate themselves and the rest of the defense down the stretch.
