WBBM With an Interesting Machado Cubs Trade
So the internet’s the rage with the Manny Machado to the Chicago Cubs trade talks. The thought has been that a trade would center around Addison Russell, potentially another MLB roster position player, and then a mix of minor league pitchers. Now, I half believe in TINSTAAPP (There Is No Such Thing As A Pitching Prospect) and with that in mind I’m fine sending over minor league pitching. What I haven’t agreed with is the thought that the Cubs would send Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber or Ian Happ over as well.
Well, George Ofman of WBBM tweeted out a new “word” on the deal.
Word is this is what the Orioles could be seeking from Cubs in package for Machado: would want some of these players including Russel…

If the deal is either Russell or Happ – I’m all of a sudden on board with this deal. If the Baltimore Orioles are willing to accept Happ and Alzolay, and De La Cruz/Lange/Little the. This is almost a no-brainer.
I’m a little more hesitant when we talk Addison, but this is based off an idea that Russell is a superior defensive shortstop. But if you can bring Machado in, shift him to third base, Kris Bryant shifts to a corner OF spot. Imagine this lineup.

Now, keep in mind Theo Epstein said the Cubs as an organization do not believe in trading a large value for a couple month rental. This trade option fits more inline with those statements. If the rumors have any legs at all (I don’t believe the Cubs are as interested as some national media guys known for doing favors for agents suggest) this is a deal that could get done from a Cubs perspective. I just don’t trust the Cubs interest and I don’t trust many of the sources on this.
