It appears the the Chicago Cubs closer, Brandon Morrow’s season is over.

This was a legit possibility. Morrow, who has seemingly spent more time on the DL than pitching in his career, will not return this season for the Cubs. He is still under contract for the 2019 season.

This does make the question on if he would return as the Cubs closer in 2019 a relevant one. With guys like Pedro Strop stepping up into the role, and the potential of free agent signings or trades in the offseason, Morrow could fall into a less dependent role next season. It’s far too early to speculate, but I don’t believe Theo Epstein will leave a high priority position up in the air after he saw many of his free agent pitching signings fall victim to injury in 2018.

This is a surprise we as it appeared Brandon was readying a return to the bullpen, as early as Tuesday.
