So… What’s the Deal? Was Javier Baez Traded!?
There was a completely ambiguous Instagram post from Javier Baez this afternoon. That post, along with the Chicago Cubs openness about trading from they 25-man roster, had a lot of fans fearing the worst.
Why would Javy need to thank Chicago? I mean, it would make sense if it was just after the season, but the Cubs were eliminated nearly a month ago…
It sounds like Javy is leaving, and with several rumors cycling, could Baez be shipped out somewhere? After all, the Cubs are in the market for a starting pitcher and Baez is a dynamic player that could bring back a young arm with several years of control.
This had people literally freaking out!
Once you have a street named after you in Illinois, you shouldn’t be able to be traded from the team. That should be a baseball law. Right @javy23baez ?

The thought of Javier Baez being traded makes me physically sick. My stomach just gets that sick feeling thinking about it

But there was someone that was waiting for confirmation before flipping his lid.
Despite the Instagram post by @javy23baez I still have no solidity to any rumors of him getting traded. He and Russell are too valuable up the middle. #hotstove

But alas, there was no need to fear. Baez was just attending an autograph signing at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. Since he doesn’t live in Chicago, he was simply flying home to Miami for the winter.
So rest assured, there was no reason to freak out Cubs fans. Baez hasn’t been traded (yet?) and you can still expect to see Baez playing at second most days this summer for the Cubs.
