New Chicago Tavern NOT Allowing Cubs Fans

In a city of 2.7 million, and knowing bars have an extremely hard time lasting a year, The Hyde Chi is trumping the normal thoughts on admittance. Surprisingly, the new establishment has some strict rules which they posted to Instagram.

So among some great ideas, like no phone usage allowed, when the bartender says you’ve had enough, you have, and other good bar suggestions.

But like I mentioned, in a city of 2.7 million, The Hyde Chi has cut off 2/3rds of their potential customers by Rule 5. No Cubs fans.

Now, apparently they aren’t really keeping Cubs fans out, I mean, that would be incredibly idiotic. They are however asking that you don’t let it be known. So if you are going to the new Hyde Park establishment, don’t wear your Cubs hat or jersey, and if you see a highlight of David Bote hitting a grand slam to win the game, definitely don’t cheer.

In honesty, if it wasn’t principle, they sound like they have a pretty cool idea. A prohibition-era speakeasy with some strict rules. You also need a password to get in, similar to The Safehouse in Milwaukee (I’m sure there are others). You can get the password by sending their Instagram account a message, but don’t share it with your friends. These guys aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, and their brutal honesty will certainly bring some attention to the drinking hole.

I’ll add, they also won’t allow Donald Trump supporters in, and while I’m not going to take a stance on this, I imagine some out there might give them some credit for that.

They are located at 5121 S. Harper Avenue, below 5115 S. Harper Avenue. Guests are told to look for a red light.

It’s too easy to find a Cub friendly bar in Chicago. We come in from out of town to go to Cubs games and i don’t want nor need negativity. This is my home town and I want to just enjoy myself during my visit home. Not be held together by a bunch of rules.
