Joe Maddon Nearing Contract – He’s Going Home
There’s something to be said about going back to where it all started. That’s exactly what former Chicago Cubs manager, Joe Maddon is about to do.
Maddon, who started his coaching career with the Angels (then California) in 1994, but was with the Angels since 1979. He would become an interim manager of the big league team, and eventually left to Tampa in the 2006 season. When Andrew Friedman left the Rays after the 2014 for the president’s post for the LA Dodgers, Maddon pulled the trigger on an option that made him a free agent. Hours later, Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer hired him in Chicago to manage the Cubs.
After the Cubs decided to not offer Maddon a contract at the end of his five-year term in Chicago, he again became a free agent. At some point today (October 16th), it is expected that Maddon and the Los Angeles Angels will reach an agreement for him to become the team’s next manager.
Joe Maddon deal with Angels likely to be for 3 years. In the 12-15 mil range.

Maddon will forever be known as a legend in Chicago. While Tom Ricketts had the foresight to bring in Theo and Jed, and those two created a great roster, Maddon got the young Cubs to overachieve in both 2015 and 2016, and broke the 108 year drought.
Congrats Joe, and thank you. We did not suck.
